John Romo will not go gentle into that good night.

After 29 years at Santa Barbara City College, and the last six as president, Romo plans to retire in June. But not until he leads the charge for a $77.2 million college bond to shore up the Mesa Campus.

The bond will appear on the June 3 college district ballot with a smaller vote-precentage hurdle to overcome than the last such measure.

“I’ll personally stand by the need for any project on this list,” Romo said while pointing to an appendix that shows the projects ranging from seismic safety upgrades to classroom conversion for capital campaign for a School of Media Arts. “If we don’t do this, this campus will really suffer."
